EAST MIDLANDS property developer Sladen Estates Limited has carried out a £21 million project for Clipper Logistics at its Ollerton depot creating 200 new jobs.
Sladen Estates, based in South Normanton, acquired an existing building at the Clipper facility and constructed a new 150,000 sq ft extension. The project includes new loading yards, car parking and access roads – increasing the building footprint to 357,000 sq ft.
Sladen Estates also put in place a new 25-year lease and sold the investment to private investors.
Clipper, now the largest employer in Ollerton, is the UK’s leading retail and high-value logistics provider. With facilities all over the country, Clipper’s Ollerton facility provides e-fulfilment, stock control and logistics services to major retailers such as Asda, John Lewis and Wilkinson.
Chief executive Nick Sladen said: “Following the success of a 342,000 sq ft unit we built for Clipper in the north east we were asked by the company to assist with the expansion of the Ollerton facility.”
The extension, which was built by Bowmer and Kirkland Building Services, took 22 weeks to complete and involved various complex phasing issues as the original building remaining in operation throughout the project.
David Hodkin, financial director of Clipper Logistics, said: “On what was a very complex and urgent scheme, Nick and his team were able to use their considerable development expertise and financial clout to deliver a very challenging project with the minimum of disruption to our business in the same manner as they were able to do at Wynyard and we are looking forward to working with them again in the future.”
